Seek and you shall find.
I am sure most of us have heard of this phrase. Mathew 7:7 says “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
So, here is the deal. If you’re looking for something, albeit negative or positive, you WILL find it. Yes! you certainly will.
Recently, I was browsing through social media looking at models profiles, celebrity profiles as well as some people I knew when I had this overwhelming feeling of insecurity come over me. The more I browsed, the more I began to compare myself to people I didn’t even know. I thought ” Geeze, it would be nice to look like her or worst of all I thought, Why does this person get to have what I want” Talk about prepubescent middle school-er. I had to stop myself right there and shut down my laptop because insecurities are not what I was aiming for.
At that point, I thought to myself, why am I looking for other people to compare myself to, why am I trying to measure up to someone else’s hard work? That was when Mathew 7:7 came to mind, “if you seek you shall find and if you knock the door will be opened to you.” That is exactly what I was doing. Opening the door to the little green monster that dwells in us, Envy. We all have the potential for it, but that is not something I want to let loose in my life or allow to run my life. Looking for the things I lack in others, made me feel envy.
I have learned that my main goal in life is to allow God to bless me with the things that are meant for me, that is why Mathew 7:7 is such a powerful verse. It has the ability to manifest the things you apply to it. As a woman, I know it is very easy for us to compare ourselves to other women and we place value on the things and people we see in the media. It’s unrealistic and it takes away from your uniqueness. Set your own views and play by your own rules. Don’t let anyone dictate who and what you should be. Let me tell you, there is nothing more precious than being yourself. I find that I get along a lot better and the right doors open for me when I am my most sincere self. I have learned that I don’t want to be anyone else. I want to be me, unapologetically, and I want you to feel the same way, so here are a few tips I like to use to get my mind back on track and looking for the positive in myself as well as bringing positive opportunities into my life.
Remember, if you’re looking for something, you will find it, so start by looking for, YOU. Find your truest self, she is in there somewhere. Take some time and meditate on the things you love about yourself. If you’re not into meditating, try creating a list of characteristics you find most appealing about yourself. If you feel like there aren’t any, go ahead a write some qualities you want to have. Again, if you search for those things in yourself, you will find them.
Learn to love your negative and positive qualities. In order for you to learn to be yourself, you must learn to love your best and worst qualities. I’m sure you are well aware of your worst qualities, but you have to embrace them. I have a tendency to procrastinate, HEAVILY, but I know that is my weakness, it can not be used to hurt me. Your thoughts will not work against you when you know what you’re working with. Besides, once you know your strengths and weaknesses you can build on them for the better.
Lastly, I think it is important for that you learn to knock on the right doors. God said, if you knock, the door will be open to you, right?. God will always lead you to the things that are meant for you when you ask. Speak, out loud, the things you desire to achieve and the person you want to become. I like to write down my goals, Lists really work for me so I jot down my goals and who I aspire to become. Based on knowing who you are and loving yourself the right doors will open for you because you know, clearly, what you desire. The right opportunities will come to you and the right people will cross your path.
Remember, there is no finish line. The goal is to see the best in yourself by actively thinking positive thoughts, speaking positive words, and most of all meditation and prayer.
I wish you Happiness always.
